In Norse mythology, Ask and Embla were the first two human beings created by the gods.

Odin and his brothers Vili and Ve, after creating the nine worlds of Norse cosmology, found two trunks growing on a beach, one of ash and one elm, and gave them a human form. Odin gave them the breath of life; Vili gave them wits and emotions; She ve gave them senses and speech.

Ask ("ash" male) and Embla ("elm" the woman) lived in Midgard and became the progenitors of mankind.
