Intervención en un programa de la CNN

 

En noviembre del 2021 recibí un correo invitándome a participar en un programa de televisión que se hace en Estados Unidos para la América Hispana: "Oppenheimer presenta" (CNN en español). El tema básico que trataría esta emisión versaba sobre la noticia que se publicó por aquel tiempo acerca de la certeza científica de la presencia vikinga en Norteamérica. 

También contaron con la intervención de otros dos invitados: Michael Dee, de la Universidad de Groningen (Holanda), y Manuel Lucena, del CSIC. 

En la edición final de la entrevista quedaron los fragmentos que les parecieron más interesantes relacionados en la temática del programa, y este es el resultado final.

Vikingane

Vikingane es una serie noruega de humor ambientada en la época vikinga. Es el año 790 dC. Se descubren las rutas marítimas hacia el oeste, por donde llega la riqueza, pero también los conflictos culturales.

La serie, que se ha rodado al mismo tiempo en noruego e inglés, se ocupa de los retos diarios de una comunidad vikinga, los enredos de amor combinando los roles de género, las amistades, las luchas de poder y una amarga disputa familiar entre dos hermanos. Los problemas son muy similares a los que nos enfrentamos hoy en día, pero las reglas del juego son completamente diferentes y las consecuencias de las decisiones de todos los días son mucho más dramática.

Noticias sobre la 4T de la serie Vikings

En este pequeño artículo no hay intención de hacer spoiler; los datos están tomados de las declaraciones hechas en la San Diego Comic-Con 2015 y alguna pequeña especulación por mi parte.

Ragnar a las puertas del Valhalla (01/4T)

Los responsables de la serie Vikings han manifestado que la 4T será "aún más grande", adelantando algunos detalles más o menos esperados por los aficionados: confrontación definitiva con la inevitable ruptura entre Ragnar y Rollo; este último, aliado del rey francés y casado con su hija, como un adelanto fuera de tiempo de la fundación de Normandía (ya sabemos que la cronología histórica no es el fuerte de esta serie); Ragnar regresando a Inglaterra para vengar la traición del rey sajón; sus hijos con más protagonismo, sobre todo Bjorn, tal vez dispuesto para tomar el relevo; y un Floki enloquecido, identificado más que nunca con Loki. Y también parece que veremos otra vez a esa enigmática e inquietante figura de Harbard, el vagabundo, que por lógica debe sentirse muy molesto por los cambios de creencias en su feudo nórdico.

ITV ha producido una miniserie de televisión de 13 capítulos sobre la figura de Beowulf, del que ya se han hecho varias adaptaciones cinematográficas. Se ha grabado en diversas localizaciones inglesas, como County Durham y Northumberland; la playa de Bamburg, las dunas de Druridge Bay y la costa de Derwent Reservoir. The Last Kingdom

The Last Kingdom es una adaptación de la serie de libros de Bernard Cornwell, llamada originalmente The Warrior Chronicles/Saxon Stories (en la edición española Sajones, Vikingos y Normandos), por el guionista Stephen Burchard para la BBC.

Es una co-producción entre BBC America, BBC Two y Carnival Films, que contará la historia de la Inglaterra sajona desde la llegada de los vikingos hasta la invasión de los normandos, dando especial importancia al nacimiento de la nación inglesa, bajo el mandato del rey Alfredo el Grande. 

La historia está protagonizada por Uhtred, hijo de un noble sajón adoptado por un vikingo, que continuamente tendrá que elegir entre ambos bandos, pero manteniendo en todo momento sus creencias en los dioses nórdicos, frente a una nobleza sajona cristianizada que se niega a reconocerle sus méritos guerreros o el derecho a recuperar las tierras de su padre.

TV: Tales of the Vikings

Con el nombre de Tales of The Vikings se emitió una serie de televisión en Estados Unidos en los años 1959-60, producida por Kirk Douglas (Brynaprod, S.A. Production) para United Artists Television.

En total fueron 39 capítulos de 30 minutos con algunos personajes fijos, siendo protagonistas Jerome Courtland en el papel de Leif Erikson y Buddy Baer como su fiel amigo Haldar.

Esta serie fue rodada en Ontario (Canadá) y se aprovecharon los decorados, vestuario y barcos de la película The Vikings (1958), de la que Kirk Douglas fue el principal actor y productor.

Después se comercializó en un DVD que recogía otras dos historias de la serie Animated Epics: Moby Dick y Don Quijote.

Nuevos libros vikingos de Manuel Velasco

TV: THE MIGHTY THOR - 1966

Cuando el doctor Don Blake se golpeó accidentalmente con un viejo bastón, ocurrió algo extraordinario: recuperó su auténtica personalidad: Thor, el dios nórdico del trueno. El bastón también recuperó su forma original: el martillo Mjolnir.

Esta serie de animación de 1966, creada por Larry Lieber y producida por Famous Studios (Canadá) para la TV, sigue a lo largo de 13 episodios las aventuras de Thor contra los enemigos de Midgard, sobre todo las que tiene por protagonista a su medio hermano Loki.
