Freyr y Freyja: Dioses nórdicos de la fertilidad y el amor

En el rico y fascinante mundo de la mitología nórdica, Freyr y Freyja se destacan como dos de las deidades más veneradas y complejas. Hermanos e hijos de Njörðr, ambos pertenecen a la raza de dioses Vanir y residen en Asgard, el hogar de los dioses Asir, aunque sus historias y atributos los diferencian claramente dentro del panteón nórdico.

1. Freyr: El Señor de la Fertilidad

Freyr es conocido como el dios de la vegetación, la lluvia, el sol naciente y la fertilidad. A diferencia de otros dioses que residían en Asgard, Freyr habitaba en Alfheim, el reino de los elfos. Su conexión con la naturaleza y la vida se refleja en los muchos objetos mágicos que poseía. Entre estos, se encuentra un caballo capaz de saltar cualquier obstáculo y un jabalí de oro llamado Gullinbursti, cuyo brillo iluminaba la oscuridad.

Sin embargo, el artefacto más significativo de Freyr era la Espada de la Victoria. Esta poderosa espada tenía la capacidad de luchar por sí sola, pero Freyr la perdió al intercambiarla para conquistar el corazón de Gerda, una gigante virgen. Este sacrificio lo dejó vulnerable, y durante el Ragnarök, la batalla final de los dioses, Freyr lamentó profundamente la pérdida de su espada.

Freyr es también una figura importante en la genealogía real sueca, ya que se le considera un antepasado mitológico de sus reyes. Su representación icónica, a menudo de manera itifálica, subraya su papel como símbolo de la fertilidad y la procreación.

2. Freyja: La Diosa del Amor y la Guerra

Freyja, hermana de Freyr, es una de las diosas más complejas del panteón nórdico. Ella es la diosa del amor, la belleza y la fertilidad, pero su dominio se extiende también a la guerra, la muerte, la magia (conocida como seid), la profecía y la riqueza. Esta dualidad en sus atributos refleja la amplitud de su influencia y la profundidad de su culto.

Los antiguos nórdicos invocaban a Freyja para obtener suerte en el amor, asistencia en los partos y buenas estaciones. Sin embargo, su conexión con la guerra y la muerte es igualmente poderosa. El nombre de Freyja deriva de una palabra germánica que significa "la señora", y su conexión con Frigg, otra diosa nórdica, sugiere una interrelación entre las dos deidades. Ambas comparten atributos relacionados con el amor y la fertilidad, y a menudo se consideran avatares una de la otra.

3. Los Hermanos Vanir en Asgard

Freyr y Freyja, aunque originalmente dioses Vanir, viven en Asgard como parte de un intercambio de rehenes entre los Vanir y los Asir, tras la guerra entre las dos razas de dioses. Música: Scald (epic doom metal)

Scald fue una banda de Epic Doom Metal formada en Yaroslavl (ciudad fundada por el príncipe de Kievan Rus del mismo nombre), con un estilo que ellos mismos llamaron ancient doom metal y temas relacionados con la mitología y las sagas vikingas. Destacaba especialmente la extraordinaria voz de Agyl, que aportaba un indescriptible toque épico a cualquiera de las canciones del grupo.

Will of the Gods is Great Power (1996)

Iniciaron su carrera discográfica con una demo titulado North Winds (1994), seguida por la cassette Will of the Gods is Great Power (MetalAgen, 1996). Tanto la cinta como el posterior CD (mas las reediciones por parte de pequeñas discográficas o simplemente piratas) llegaron a convertirse en objeto de culto, muy buscado por los coleccionistas.

 
El grupo se disolvió en 1997, tras la muerte del vocalista. 

Tal como dijeron, SCALD=Agyl, Agyl=SCALD. 

En 2021, con There Flies Our Wail!, decidieron dar una nueva vida a Scald, contando con la imprescindible aportación vocal del chileno Felipe Plaza Kutzbach (con amplia experiencia en varias bandas, como Procession, que ya hacían alguna versión de Scald), que muestra una tesitura que lo convierte en el claro heredero musical del recordado Argyl. Este disco contiene dos temas, uno de ellos ya presente en el anterior disco: Eternal Stone, inspirado en las piedras rúnicas vikingas, tal vez sea el tema más popular de la formación original, junto con Night sky.

Excelente retorno de una banda que, en otras circunstancias geográficas, sería considerada una de las grandes del rock/metal.

The inspiration for the creative team is the traditional Russian culture and traditions of the peoples of the North, Scandinavian mythology and Russian folk tales.

Musicians are on the way to identify the deep bonds of different cultures through music as a universal language.

In the performance of the collective sound composition based on Russian ritual calendar songs, chants on the ancient north-western dialects, in the musical design of which echoes Scandinavian mythology and northern motifs, accompanied by ethnic instruments: davul, jouhikko, harp, lyre, kalyuka, bouzouki, psaltery, tambourine Khakassia.

La inspiración para el equipo creativo es la cultura tradicional rusa y las tradiciones de los pueblos del norte, la mitología escandinava y los cuentos populares rusos.

Los músicos están en camino de identificar los lazos profundos de las diferentes culturas a través de la música como un lenguaje universal.

En la interpretación de la composición sonora colectiva basada en las canciones del calendario ritual ruso, los cantos de los antiguos dialectos del noroeste, cuyo diseño musical refleja la mitología escandinava y los motivos del norte, acompañados de instrumentos étnicos: davul, jouhikko, harpa, Kalyuka, bouzouki, salterio, pandereta Khakassia.

El título Ferd significa "viaje", "viajar" y "explorar". El enfoque principal del álbum es honrar a quienes viajaron por el mundo, expandiendo así el conocimiento y facilitando el intercambio cultural. 

Ferd comenzó como una colección de piezas compuestas inicialmente para cortometrajes, documentales y obras de teatro, interpretadas con instrumentos nórdicos antiguos. Pronto evolucionó mucho más allá de eso. 

Reelaboradas con la ayuda de talentosos compañeros músicos nórdicos reunidos para dar vida a Ferd, las canciones revelan un gran viaje con un enfoque común, sin dejar de contar cada uno sus propias historias. Invité a artistas visuales a ilustrar cada canción del álbum, que puedes encontrar en el extenso folleto junto con sus correspondientes historias.

ØSTAVIND

Østavind es un antiguo término noruego para el viento que sopla del este.

Utilizo la palabra en el sentido expandido, señalando el hecho de que parte de nuestra cultura (como muchos instrumentos musicales) fue traída del lejano oriente.

Es un himno a los que viajaron allí, pero también a los que vinieron aquí. Hay pruebas infinitas de la importancia que ha tenido este comercio en el desarrollo cultural de Escandinavia. Para subrayar el intercambio cultural, he utilizado solo instrumentos basados en hallazgos aceptados de toda Escandinavia, algunos con su origen en el Medio Oriente. Los ritmos y escalas utilizados en esta composición son de ambas culturas.

Fool's mate fue el primer disco en solitario de Peter Hammill (miembro de la banda Van Der Graaf Generator), en el que se incluía un tema relacionado con los vikingos, algo bastante inaudito en aquellos tiempo (Immigrant song, de Led Zeppelin, como único antecedente rockero). Entre otros colaboradores, contó con Robert Fripp a la guitarra. El disco se publicó en 1971, siendo remasterizado en 2005.
